About Us

East Melbourne Ultrasound (EMU) is a specialist medical imaging practice, providing obstetric and gynaecological (O&G) ultrasound services to women across the lifespan. EMU’s previous principal, Dr Andrew Ngu, has been a leading practitioner in the field for many decades and served as the president of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Following Dr Ngu’s retirement, Prof Joanne Said and A/Prof Stefan Kane will continue to run the practice, providing premium O&G ultrasound services.

Prof Said and A/Prof Kane are certified subspecialists in maternal fetal medicine with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (CMFM). Prof Said has experience in running a highly successful specialist women’s ultrasound practice in Melbourne, having previously been a founding director of Western Imaging for Women. A/Prof Kane has been a consultant for Western Imaging for Women for many years and has previously worked as a sonologist for Monash Ultrasound for Women and Women’s Ultrasound Melbourne (WUMe). As a result, both have extensive experience in private women’s ultrasound practice in Melbourne and are well placed to continue Dr Ngu’s legacy of high-quality, patient-centred care in East Melbourne.

EMU’s location in East Melbourne is nestled between two of the leading private maternity hospitals in Melbourne, St Vincent’s Private and Epworth Freemasons. The practice also provides care for women attending many other hospitals for maternity or gynaecological services, such as the Royal Women’s Hospital, Frances Perry House and the Mercy Hospital for Women. The new, purpose-designed location with views over the Fitzroy Gardens provides a warm, safe, patient-focused experience. There is easy street parking, and the site is well serviced by public transportation.
